True love is when we put our preferences aside in favour of the beloved. Some parents wear old clothes for Eid but buy new clothes for their children. It’s a sign of their love, they put their needs aside in favour of their children. Similarly, one who truly loves Allah and Nabi ﷺ will always put His nafs and desires aside in preference of Deen. He will not worry about what He wants, He will worry about what Allah wants. The pleasure of parents lies in the pleasures of their children, his pleasure will lie in the pleasure of Allah. If you ever look at people of piety and wonder how they got there, this is how. They simply possess a burning and true love that makes obedience easy and striving enjoyable.
When we find ourselves happy in the disobedience of Allah or in acting contrary to the Sunnah, we wouldn’t say there is no love in the heart as every believer has a degree of love. But the love is not of the required level, it is lacking. If you find yourself in this position, make dua to Allah to bless you with His love. Seek Him by studying the deeds that please Him and act upon them. This will attract His mercy. Fulfill His commands and follows the Sunnah and He will bless you with His unwavering love. May He grant us the tawfiq, aameen.
