Stay in your lane

A few days ago I was driving with my son. A car in the opposite lane swerved out of his lane and began driving into oncoming traffic. He was driving towards me. Knowing that a collision between my car and his was imminent, I began to horn and flash. Eventually, he noticed and swiftly swerved back into his lane. In shock I muttered, “What is he doing?” My son heard and responded, “Perhaps he didn’t realise he was off the road because he was busy concentrating on something else”. This reply made me think.

Allah has given us a road called the straight path. The one who keeps his eyes on the road will not stray, but the one whose concentration dwindles, will swerve to the other lane. Many of us are busy concentrating on something else, causing us to drift away from Deen. Shaytaan tries to distract us, our nafs tries to entice us. This world in all its glitter, glamour and glory, deceives us, for anything which makes us forget Allah is a deception indeed. In the midst of all this, it is only Allah that can save us. He is our guide and the Qur’an is our map. Thus, follow His guidelines and stay in your lane. Don’t swerve. Otherwise, your imaan will be at stake. May Allah protect us, aameen.
